Introducing Baby Mia

Baby Mia is officially 1 week old today and I'm finally getting around to updating our blog. Many people have asked how things went and it will be good to have it "on record" so take a potty break or grab a drink and get ready for the full documentary. :O)

Mia was a planned c-section as Easton ended up being one also. The thought of going through the whole labor thing and the unknown didn't sound very tempting to me so that's what we opted for. October 29th was the date given to us by the surgery coordinator. It happened to work out great because the 28th is Scott's sister's b-day and the 31st was Halloween. The c-section was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. but we had to show up at the hosptal at 6:00. To be completely honest, it was all way too slick to be true. We showed up, didn't have to fill out any paper work, and they showed me right to my room where my beautiful hospital gown was ready and waiting. The lady that did my IV was a pro (I hate those things and they always seem to hurt going in). There was an emergency c-section that popped up and pushed my surgery back a little bit but that was no big deal. Scott, my mom and I were chitter chatting away as I was actually feeling some small contractions all on my own. Wow! That was a first for me. When it came time, Scott got suited up and ready for the fun.
They wheeled me away to the operating room there in there labor & delivery wing and I got to get up on the table all on my own. The anesthesiologist did my spinal block which I didn't even feel (bless that man!) and I laid down and got ready for the big event. They covered me with warm blankets and it almost felt like I was at a spa. :0) Within a matter of minutes my wonderful doctor had started cutting away and Scott joined the party. With Easton I remember being only half way coherent and I felt a lot of pressure and tugging and pulling. With this one I was completely awake and alert and felt hardly anything. Within another 3-5 minutes baby Mia took her first breath and let us know she was here with a loud cry. She was born at 9:09 a.m. and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and was 19 in. long. The spot they had set up where they clean and take care of the baby was right off to my right so I could watch everything. It was great! They had Mia taken care of in a jiffy and the nurse brought her over for me to see before they took her to the nursery. Right at that moment she stuck her bottom lip out like she was pouting. It looked exactly like what Easton does when he pouts. Hillarious! She was beautiful!Scott went wtih Mia to the nursery so while the doctors were putting me back together we all chatted about marathons and Disneyland. I talked with the anesthesiologist about his family and then I got to tell him a little bit about the great state of Utah (he is from Boston). Before I knew it they were all wrapped up and I went to a recovery room for about 30 minutes. After that I went to my post-partum room and set up camp while my body very slowly went into tingly mode before the numbness wore off hours later. Easton was with our good neighborhood friends the whole morning and they brought him to the hospital just in time to see his new sister. He took a look at her and that's about all he was interested in doing that day (despite the fact that baby Mia gave him a cool Spiderman gift). We had a friend in the ward who is a photographer come and take some pics of those first moments with baby Mia. The info to view those pictures can be found on my previous post. Definitely worth a look. Thanks Jen! They are so precious!!! The following day Easton got to visit again but still didn't take too much interest in the baby. Come Friday morning before we went home (go figure) Easton decided to warm up a bit and take a look at the baby with his dad. It really was cute to see.Come Friday morning I was chomping at the bit to go home. I was up and moving around pretty well (being on my full allotment of pain killers and anti-inflamatory pills of course) with next to no swelling. With Easton I had to be wheeled out of the hospital in a wheel chair. This time I walked out on my own. I was able to do the stairs in our house that same day and only slept in the recliner for 2 nights before feeling good enough to be able to get in and out of my bed. I think I spent a good 2 weeks in the recliner after Easton. So, needless to say, this time around has been pretty darn smooth in all respects. And the best part of all is that so far (knock on wood) our cute little Mia is the best baby ever. She never makes a peep unless it's to let me know it's time to eat. She also has a little grunt when she's making a mess in her diaper. He, he, he. I feed her before we go to bed and she only wakes up once during the night to eat. Then again come 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning. The nurses at the hospital said she was a gifted baby because she was so good. Mia also has a knack for smiling. Yes, I said smiling. Typically newborns get forced smiles with gas or while they sleep but little Mia can manage to smile at times other than that quite often. She is so darn cute! One of these days I'll catch it with the camera. Mia eats, sleeps, poops, and spends most of her time being loved by her grandma. My mom will be here for another week helping us out. Don't know how we would have managed without her. What would we all do without our mothers???
Well, this post is of novel proportions for me so I think I'll wrap it up there. We are loving finally having Mia here. My heart feels like it has doubled in size. Kids are the best! (Even better when sleeping). :O)

She is absolutely beautiful Jess! CONGRATS! I know...moms come in quite handy when there is a new baby around - don't they!? After I had Addison and my mom was getting ready to leave I couldn't stop crying! The thought of doing it all without her was too much! I'm sure hormones played a big part too. You have lots to look forward to! Mostly good stuff. ;)

I'm so glad everything went so well. Maybe I should move far away to have my baby so I can know what it's like to have my mom come stay and take care of things. Personally, it's not so grand living so close, they don't need to stay over. On the other hand, ALL of our family is close, so we do get the help we need. Congrats again, she's beautiful!!

Congrats you guys! It was so good to chat with you last week Jess - sounds like baby Mia is a little angel. Can you imagine her finding time to buy Easton a cool Spiderman gift, what with her busy labor schedule to keep :) I can't wait to see you over Christmas. It's been much too long...come home! xoxo

Hooray for you and Mia. I thought that doing another c-section was ripping me off, but after reading this I am even happier about my choice. Thanks for being patient with the emergency c-section that got in your way, that was me the first time around. So happy for you and the fam!

Congrats Jessica and family. I'm glad to see that this C-section did not slow you down a bit. She seems like a special little girl and so lucky to have you as a family. Good luck until the 3mth mark when everything seems to settle a bit.
