Flashback Friday

There are a lot of people who do a weekly post with the same theme each time. I kind of like the idea and have decided to go with "Flashback Friday" for our blog. Each Friday I will post a picture and story to go along with from the past. Thought it would be fun! :)

On that note . . . . this is a picture of the outside of some restrooms in Auckland, New Zealand. We spent a week and a half in New Zealand after a week and a half in Australia and picking up my sister Shelbee from her mission in 2006. We all got the biggest kick out of this!

Paris here I come!

. . . . Parris Island, South Carolina that is. As a resolve to get back into the routine after having Mia I am participating in my first South Carolina triathlon on March 14th! Parris Island is the headquaters of Eastern Recruiting Region for the US Marine Corps and one of the most visited military facilities in the world. The triathlon (sprint distance) will take place at this facility and the swim will be held in the combat training pool. I hear they keep it at a nice 80 degrees. How cool is that!!! (much preferred over a lake swim, I know all about those gators lurking in the water - or an ocean swim, not brave enough yet)

Though I have not trained for an entire year, I've found that it is much like riding a bike . . . you never forget how to do it and once you get going it comes back quickly. And after all that time I still hate running. :0) So, now that I've spilled the bean there's no backing out. Look for a post in March about all the fun!

Frustration!!!

You know how when you have your first child and everyone warns you about how tough it's going to be . . . . sleep deprivation, fatigue, etc. Why is it that no one warns you about how hard it will be to potty train that little critter???? I can honestly say right now that I would choose 3 hours of sleep a night for 4 months over potty training. Everything I read says at the very begining that you need to be SUPER patient. What about those of us (speaking of myself) who are not capable of such a thing? ;0) About 2 months back I decided to go for the glory and put Easton straight into underwear. After an entire day of cleaning up messes I was done with that plan. It didn't bother him to be wet or make a mess in his underwear. Lately we have just been trying to get him to sit on the potty every so often. He usually participates in this willingly but will NEVER go on the potty. No matter how long we sit there or how many books we read, he will wait until 5 minutes after he gets off the potty to go. This drives me crazy!!!!!! He will not say when he has to go, or even admit it after the fact. We have a potty chart, we have a treat jar, we even told him we could go to Chuck E. Cheese (which he LOVES) when he went on the potty . . . . . nothing is working. Easton is a smart kid and he has to have some sort of clue but ?????? So I am in desperate need of some potty training advice from all of you "seasoned" potty trainers out there. I don't want to have a 3 year old in diapers! 4 months to go . . . .

Where did she come from?

Where did this girl come from???? Mia is the cutest thing ever and certainly doesn't take after me. It must be her dad! ;0) She has big blue eyes and eyelashes to die for. Every time I look at her I get envious!

For Liz . . .

So I just read a post on my friend Liz's blog about her son acting up while grocery shopping at Walmart and her having to do a little something to get his attention(great story - I had a good laugh). There was mention of how blogs are not good for self esteem because other peoples kids seem so good. Also how everyone around you and especially those without children know what "perfect parenting" is. So, Liz, just for you . . . . I dedicate this post to bad experiences and bad parenting at the grocery store (by me and my lovely children).

**Just this week we are at the infamous Walmart. Sometimes Easton rides inside the big part of the cart but since I had a lot of food to buy, I told him he had to walk. He does pretty good with following me only if I remind him every 30 seconds. So, we're walking down the frozen food isle in search for some frozen veggies. I hadn't really heard or noticed Easton behind me. I found what I needed and before turning the corner I thought I'd better check to see if he was coming. He was coming alright . . . . . but not without stopping to lick every glass freezer door on the way! A number of people were watching and I was too far away to do anything right away other than to yell at him to stop. He has very selective hearing so of course chose not to listen. He kept working his way down until he met up with me (I had abondoned the cart with the baby/food and my purse because I was so embarrased). Needless to say he got a spank on the butt right there in the store in front of everyone.

**Last week, again at Walmart. Easton kept taking things off the shelf to put in the cart. At first I just calmy told him that we didn't need those things and that he could put it back. He would put things back but would just keep finding other items to put in the cart. As you can guess, with this pattern repeating I had gone down one isle in 10 minutes. Wasn't going to work. I warned Easton one last time to leave the food on the shelves and he chose not to obey. Sometimes when he knows he's in trouble he'll run away from me, which he DID do at this point in time. I chased him down and decided to just put him in the cart. Right as I was putting him in the cart (probably with a little more force than usual) a lady rounded the corner right when Easton yells "Let me go!!!! You hurt my arm mom!!!" She gave me the on-eyed glare and walked by. I felt like I needed to explain what had just happened. ????

**I had to go to Sam's Club to get some stuff for our Young Women in Excellence night. No choice to wait for Scott to get home, I had to go. Mia was just 2-1/2 weeks or so old at the time. I told myself the whole way there that this could only end up a bad experience. To my surprise, the kids helf off until the check out then all at once Mia starts screaming (she doesn't like a binky so there's not much to do until she calms down and stops crying) and Easton, who was trying to climb up the check-out counter, slips and hits his face somewhere and starts screaming. We were checking out at customer service because it was extremely busy. So that put us in a prime location for everyone to sit and stare and me and wonder what I had just done to my 2 kids that are both screaming. /Everyone that walked by me had to make some sort of comment. After many failed attempts to get them both to settle down . . . my face bright red from embarasment . . . nothing worked. As soon as the lady handed me the receipt I sprinted to the exit bypassing the receipt-checker person.

I could go on and on but it would be too long to read. Anyone else have any stories to share?? Come on, it's okay . . . . no one is perfect, we just never blog about those imperfections. :0)
