This past Saturday I was one of 450 swimmers in the Lowcountry Splash. It was seriously one of the coolest events I've ever participated in. It's a 2.4 mile swim in the Cooper River that goes under the Ravanel Bridge and right in front of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point. We made sure to swim backstroke under the bridge to take in the view and Scott and the kids watched me swim by from the flight deck of the Yorktown. I even stopped to wave at them. Very cool! I was in the water for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The current didn't really help much and once we got to the bridge the water got really rough. The newspaper reported that there were one to three foot waves out there. The race director said that day we had the toughest conditions ever for that event that day. Good thing we didn't know any better. LOL! There were also a few times that I freaked myself out because of "things" swimming underneath me (i.e. dolphin, shark, rays) but I made it through okay. :0) Can't wait to do it again next year! Here are a few pics.
