No news does not necessarily mean good news!

The last few weeks have definitely been eventful and it seems like I've had no time to post anything on the blog. Lets starts with the good news . . . . .

Potty training Easton since his his 3rd birthday has been SO much easier than any attempt before that. It only took a few days and a trip to Chuck E. Cheese for a reward and we were set with the peeing. After a week he said he didn't want to wear a pull-up to bed so he started wearing his underwear to bed and he's never had an accident overnight since. Hooray! Now, number 2 is a different story for some reason but I'm sure that will come around here soon. :0)

The not so good news . . . . .

On Thursday of last week my computer crashed. Turns out it was my hard drive and they were unable to recover anything. :0( Luckily I keep a majority of my stuff on an external drive so I wasn't completely devastated. I had not created "Recovery Discs" on my own (the computer was only 8 months old) so I had to contact HP for the discs. The Geek Squad at Best Buy is replacing the hard drive and restoring the operating system, etc. I'll have the daunting task of reinstalling all of my programs. Moral of the story . . . . when your computer prompts you to back things up, DO IT!

I had posted over a week ago about our new Beagle puppy Boots. After having him for only 2 short days he started to go downhill. Scott left on a business trip to Denver on Monday for 5 days and that's when Boots stopped eating and moving. By Thursday I got him in to see the vet. They ran a bunch of tests and found that his stomach was chalk full of worms and that his blood count was very low so he was very anemic. They basically said that if we could get him turned around in the next 24 hours he was going to die. What!!????? Scott was gone and I had never owned a dog before let alone had to take care of a sick one. They sent me home with various medications and some perscription food. They also gave him a shot that is supposed to start killing the worms off pretty quickly (better than the pills they give them). Boots vomited on the way home and did his duty from the other end and was sitting is puddles of blood by the time we made it home. It was seriously the saddest thing I've ever seen. I ended up having to feed him through a syringe and all kinds of things. Long story made shorter, about a day after seeing the Vet Boots started eating the perscription food on his own until he evenutally got back to normal over the next 4 days. It was quite the ordeal. We're just glad our first puppy didn't die on us. Easton is way too attached.

Oh my gosh, I had to read the end of your Boots story to make sure he didn't die before I continued. That is so sad. I'm so glad he's feeling better. How did he get so many worms like that? Is that normal for dogs?
I can't even imagine that happening so soon and to such a young dog.
I'm sorry about your computer as well. I've backed up all our pictures on a flash drive, but I need to work on documents as well.
Yeah for Easton. With Gavin we eventually had to bribe him for every time he went #2 in the potty he got to pick a prize out of this bucket. Soon enough he got it down. I was too impatient. However, I am a firm believer in not worrying about it until their ready, which was about 3 years and one month for Gavin. A lot less stressful.

Wow, what a traumatic experience for you and Boots! I'm glad he's ok. I've heard the worm thing can happen in puppies, but never heard of it actually happening! That's going to cost some money, but it will be worth it! Yikes!! Sorry about the computer. I wouldn't think that would happen to a 8 month old computer. I'm scared of that happening here so I need to backup my files. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, my goodness! You had me worried there for a minute! Tell Scott that he can never go out of town again! I am going to back up my files right now. Maybe...

K - you've had a bit to deal with lately! Sorry about your computer and your dog. I'm so glad Boots is going to be ok! We use a program called Mozy (I think) that dowloads everything automatically from our computer and saves it (we pay like 5 dollars a month). Anyway - it's awesome because you don't even have to think about it. Let me know if you want the website! Glad you're back. :)

Aawwwww. The poor little puppy! I was getting a tear in my eye imagining what the poor little guy was going through. I'm SO relieved to hear he's doing better now!
The other day before I gave Ryker a bath, I made an attempt at getting him to pee in the toilet. (He usually pees when I take his diaper off and he's getting ready to get in the tub. Must be the running water). Well he peed on the floor and I didn't make it to the toilet in time. He's only 20 months. I'm trying this WAY too early! Ah well. It was worth a shot. I'm glad to hear Easton is doing so well. :)

Wow! Was he an SPCA puppy or is he pedigree? We had a similar experience with a kitten from the SPCA.

Poor boots! That is so scary! I too am glad he's okay. And your computer?!? I have nightmares about things like that happening to me. I have a lot of my pictures on backup disks, and we have multiple hard drives, but I don't move them over often enough. You've had a traumatic couple of weeks!
